I was like, Did this festival do that on purpose? [laughs]Alxis: Did you tell him you were a fan or discuss music?Shapel: I went through anger management, like quite a few times. A diehard punk rocker and former award-winning competitive cheerleader, Shapel found ways to express himself and own his individuality at an early age. And I learned that also from punk. [laughs]Alxis: Not too many people have the lifestyle that touring musicians have but touring comedians seem to. In comparison to the security guard, I was this little sixteen year old. Thats the thing about ityou can do it anyway you want to as long as youre being authentic to yourself. I think punks just taught me [to] control what you can control. Shapel Lacey's Bio BIO: Shapel Lacey is a Los Angeles based comedian born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. For example, my favorite Patrice ONeal, he would say some of the wildest shit but you listened because what he was saying was super interesting. His unique life experiences such as being adopted by a Caucasian family at age 15, his punk rock mentality, and his stage presence make for a truly original voice in the comedy community. Following his performance, Shapel felt he was real onstage for the first time. There are no details that may strongly suggest his current marital status. Alxis: Since punk means so many different things to different people and includes a wide umbrella of bands from Black Flag to Crass, can you tell us more about how you define punk?Shapel: Its being authentic to who you are.
